Factors are simply numbers that you multiply together to make another number (a product). In other words they are numbers that can divide evenly into a number.
Numbers that have no factors other than 1 and the number itself are called prime numbers.
factor x factor = product
A good rule when looking for factors is to start with the smallest numbers and work your way up to find all the factors of a number.
Example: find the factors of 12
1 x 12 = 12
2 x 6 = 12
3 x 4 = 12
So the factors of 12 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12
To find the common factors of two numbers simply list the factors of each and find what they have in common!
